Dr. Cat Burns is a licensed clinical psychologist with over 20 years of clinical and research experience with children and families dealing with acute/chronic illness and disabilities.

She graduated from UCLA with a BA in Psychology, with an emphasis in Developmental Disabilities. She earned her master’s and doctoral degrees in Clinical Psychology at the California School of Professional Psychology at Alliant International University. She completed her internship at the Los Angeles Child Guidance Center, where she trained in a number of evidence-based treatments working with children and families. Dr. Burns completed a postdoctoral fellowship in Pediatric Psychology and Neuropsychology at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles, specializing in assessment and treatment of children and adolescents with medical conditions and their families. Following her fellowship, she worked at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles as an Attending Psychologist, with an academic appointment as an Assistant Professor of Clinical Pediatrics in the Keck School of Medicine of USC. Over the course of her training and clinical work, she has worked extensively in community settings, schools, and hospitals, providing psychoeducational, psychodiagnostic, and neuropsychological assessments, as well as psychotherapy.

In addition to her clinical work, Dr. Burns is engaged in ongoing research. She has also conducted research at the Semel Institute for Neuroscience and Human Behavior at UCLA, Lanterman Developmental Center, and Children’s Hospital Los Angeles / Keck School of Medicine of USC. Dr. Burns has had the privilege of presenting her work nationally and internationally. She is a member of the American Psychological Association, Society for Health Psychology (APA Division 38), and Bay Area Psychological Association.

When she is not working with patients, Dr. Burns can be found traveling, curled up with a good book, and spending time outdoors with her husband and son.
